Swell (original lyrics) final version (also video) the story
Welllll
the Qur'an is coming
Sharia is coming
the caliphate is coming
and the world is going ...
to hellllllll
and ain't that
swelllllll
Welllll
yeahhhh
wellllll
worldwide Islam is coming
and that is a bummer
kill the gays
get yourself some slaves
jihad against me
against all who would be free
Hellllll
ain't that
swellllllll
the world is going
to helllllll
women dogs Jews
the Qur'an is bad news
Helllllll
Wellllll
Maybe the Qur'an is going
and Sharia is going
and the caliphate is nowhere
'cuz we're all knowing
too welllllll
it ain't swell
kill those who leave
those who won't believe
who know
it's hellllllll
to keep slaves
to kill gays
to keep women down
yeah all that is known
welllllll
the Qur'an is not
swellllllllll
Sharia is not
swellllllllll
the caliphate is not
swell
if worldwide Islam is coming
the world is going ...
to helllllllllll
and that's not swell
that is a bummer
worldwide Islam's not a comer
so if it's going
Swelllllll
swelllllllll
swelllllllllllllllllll
Welllllll
and the world's
not going
to hellllllllllllll

The Story of the Marking of Swell
The words, they came so easily, as usual.
But then the usual question: how to get them out into the world?
Mark, a friend I've been working with for years, is a patient guy.
We recorded one version - one voice - didn't like it.
At some point we tried another. That version was also put aside.
Then one day we went back to the original recording, listened to it for some reason or other.. Maybe that actually worked, we said to each other.
We fooled around with it. Or Mark did the work. I was there, giving input and listening to what Mark was trying out, suggesting.
The piece actually came together very quickly, once we were settled on a path.
The visuals. It's just a 2-minute piece, but I think the visuals took at least 20 hours. I knew what the first 2 images should be. No idea where to go from there. Stuck.
I spent an hour getting input from the videographer I've often worked with. She's the one who got the text to move, and added the wave.
At that point, there were still miles and milesto go to get to the final video - but I was not utterly stuck. Lots of ideas.
But nothing quite worked.
I know the story of Edison and the light bulb - over 10,000 tries.
Sometimes the only thing that keeps me going is stubbornness.
And then at some point it's clear: yes, this is actually working - for me, anyway - at that particular moment, anyway. Creative stuff - will it click with people or not? I never really know.
Anyway, there are still hours of work ahead. But I can see, sort of anyway, where I'm going.
And then ... out into the world. And we will see how people respond.

Political Rap Song.
Political Music
beat music
for tough stuff
hard stuff
hard enough stuff
to hear, to believe
political music
political
songs
they don't belong
to soft sweep music
not this
political rap
hard beat that
grabs the attention
with words we need to hear
we can close our eyes
reality continues
we can still hear
the political beat
of political rap
political music that
opens our eyes
